  Do not eat or drink anything (including water, chewing gum, candy or mints) after midnight the night before your surgery. Do not drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours before or after surgery.

If you do not follow these instructions, your surgery
may be cancelled or postponed.

Plan to arrive at North Hills Surgery Center 1 hour and 30 minutes before your procedure is scheduled. A parent or legal guardian must accompany children scheduled for surgery.

Please arrange in advance for someone to drive you home following surgery. Every patient must be accompanied by a responsible adult. For your protection, you will not be permitted to drive yourself home.  If you do not have a ride, your case will be cancelled.  No exceptions will be made.

Please bring any equipment your physician gave to you. (i.e.: braces, slings)

Do not wear nail polish, heavy makeup or jewelry.

We encourage your family member or friend to remain at the surgery center during your procedure. Your surgeon will want to speak with them after your surgery is complete.

You will be monitored in our recovery room after surgery. The nurse will monitor your vital signs, your comfort level, and ask you to cough and take deep breaths to aid in your recovery. If you have had a general anesthetic, expect to spend a minimum of 30 minutes in the first stage recovery room.

Once you are stable, you will be moved to second stage recovery. You will be able to drink fluids and have a family member or friend visit when your condition allows. Expect to spend another 30 minutes or so in second stage recovery.

Once you are ready to go home, the nurse will review instructions with you and/or the person accompanying you. Be sure to follow your doctor's instructions regarding medication and diet.

The next business day after surgery, you will receive a phone call from one of our nurses checking on your progress. Please feel free to ask questions or report any concerns at this time.
